■ WOODEN MATERIAL ■
Material: Crafted from 100% whole basswood and poplar wood.
BASSWOOD
Basswood is classed as a hardwood, is available in a variety of standard stain and paint colours.
Basswood in its natural state has a very even, light colour, which makes it ideal to stain. If a very even consistency of colours is required then basswood is the obvious choice. This being the case, it should be noted that basswood is a natural timber. As basswood is stained or painted, it is generally not susceptible to colour change to any great degree. If colour change does occur, it will be a gradual change, and adds to the character of the timber. Basswood is naturally a medium density timber and as such is ideal for shutters, being neither too heavy nor too light, but still offering a reasonable amount of hardness, thus giving a good resistance to knocks and bumps. Basswood has been selected especially for use in shutters due to its many qualities, including its resistance to bowing and warping when kiln dried.
POPLAR WOOD
Poplar wood is a class of hardwood that is medium-to-soft in density. Poplar shutters are a good value; the highly workable wood can be shaped into a variety of pleasing designs. Poplar wood is naturally a medium density timber and as such is ideal for shutters, being neither too heavy nor too light, but still offering a reasonable amount of hardness, thus giving a good resistance to knocks and bumps. Poplar wood has been selected especially for use in shutters due to its many qualities, including its resistance to bowing and warping when kiln dried. Poplar wood used for the shutters is grown mainly in European as a plantation timber. Poplar wood is a reasonable quick growing timber, and is ready available. The plantation forests are managed for sustainability, ensuring an environmentally friendly and ongoing supply.
Basswood takes a finish well, it can be either painted or stained. Poplar's color is not uniform, it should be better to paint.

Drying
Wood is kiln dried twice in a computer controlled drying facility. The wood is specifically dried to take into account the climate of the country to which the shutters will be exported. This is very important as these shutters are manufactured for installation in climates as varied as South Africa and Australia. By utilising these methods frame warping is greatly reduced.
Quarter-Sawn wood
Quarter-Sawn timbers are used in the natural timber shutters. In quarter-sawing, the wood is harvested from tree logs in a way that makes it less susceptible to inherent cupping, twisting and warping. Cuts are made parallel to the wood’s medullary rays instead of across, which give the wood strength and stability.
Mortise and Tenon joint
Use mortise and tenon joints between the rail and the stile. Mortise and tenon joints are designed to withstand the shear stress and racking forces applied when operating a shutters.
Paint
Our good paint to ensure the shutters are less to fading and yellowing.
